Expression of p53 and c-erbB-2 Proteins and Prognosis in Patients with Gastric Adenocarcinoma

Abstract
We examined expressions of p53 and c-erbB-2 proteins in gastric adenocarcinomas with immunohistochemical stain, to evaluate the significance as an independent prognostic factor. In addition, correlations between the expressions and
clinicopathological
findings were analysed. Immunohistochemical stain with labelled streptavidin biotin method was applied to formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded archival tissue section from 116 gastric adenocarcinomas. Patients were classified according to
cliniopathological findings, age, sex, tumor site, gross type, tumor size, Lauren's classification, invasion pattern, histology, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis, DNA ploidy. Survival rates in every situation were investigated and
compared
with
univariate and multivariate analysis.
@ES The results are as followings;
@EN 1. The expression rate of p53 protein was 32.8% (38/116). No clinicopathological finding, but extent of lymph node metastasis, was correlated with the expression. The greater the extent of lymph node metastasis, the higher the rate of p53
protein
expression (11.9% in N0, 31.6% in N1, 34.6% in N2, P<0.01).
